In some ways, it's very hard to believe that it has been only four months since the "Day Without Immigrants" marches that challenged the punitive (and, we hope, subsequently doomed) draconian measures of the infamous H.R. 4437. Now Congress has planned a national anti-immigrant traveling road tour in hopes of stirring up the nativist vote in advance of the November elections, and immigrants' rights groups aren't prepared to let the politicians dominate the headlines. Over the Labor Day weekend, massive marches are scheduled to take place throughout California leading up to the first-ever National Latino Congreso in Los Angeles on September 6th through the 10th. But the east coast will also get in on the act starting September 7th, with what organizers hope will be the largest single day of immigrant marches in U.S. history--more than one million strong. If you'd like to participate, contact your local immigration rights group to see if marches are being planned in your city.
